Caroline Brooks


Caroline (Carly) Brooks, AVP and Counsel, is the head of the Advanced Markets Group for the US Individual Life operations of John Hancock. In her current position, she manages the Advanced Markets team and helps drive strategic growth initiatives by providing case consultation, technical expertise, and marketing support to field personnel, producers, and financial professionals in the areas of estate planning, tax, and business planning. Carly is an accomplished public speaker, frequently speaking at industry events and conferences, and is an experienced legal writer.

Professional experience
Prior to joining John Hancock, Carly was a member of a top national firm's wealth strategies group. In this role, she provided comprehensive wealth management advice to high-net worth clients in the areas of estate planning, retirement planning, and philanthropy. She also worked for a multi-family firm in Boston providing estate and financial planning advice to ultra-high net worth families.

Education & affiliations
Carly received her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in Criminal Justice and Political Science from the University at Albany, State University of NY and received her Juris Doctor with a concentration in Estate Planning along with her Master of Business Administration (JD/MBA program) from Western New England University School of Law, Springfield, Massachusetts.

Carly is licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) designations. She serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for Tax Facts, a publication of The National Underwriter Company, is a co-author of the 19th Edition of the Tools and Techniques of Estate Planning, editor of the 2nd edition of the Tools and Techniques of Trust Planning, and has been published in several industry publications including Broker World, Financial Planning, and On Wall Street.

Carly is very active in the greater Boston legal community, serving as the currentPresident of the Boston Trusts and Estates Consortium, and on the Legislative Committee for the Boston Estate Planning Council. She is active in the Massachusetts Women's Bar Association and is a volunteer with My Life My Choice of the Justice Resource Institute.
